GENERATIONS

Archery is a lifetime sport that can offer family fun to participants of all ages.

I remember growing up with our family engaged in all sorts of archery activities. Whether it was shooting in the yard, hunting, bow-fishing, archery tournaments, or time at one of the areas bow shops, we spent moments together making memories with bows and arrows.

In hopes of encouraging other families to grow together in a love for the sport, Coach Rip’s Archery launched the Generations Tournament Event Series. These tournaments invite student archers to pair with an adult in their life, creating a team, and allowing them the opportunity to compete against others in a good deal of light-hearted fun, and friendly competition.

Both individuals on the team are required to shoot a Genesis Original Bow, also referred to as the Universal Compound Bow. The tournament consists of 10 and 15 meter practice and scoring rounds. Both archers begin by shooting 2 practice ends of 5 arrows each (from 10 meters). Archers on each team take turns, with the first archer (archer A) shooting 5 arrows, then trading places with their team mate (archer B). Then archer B shoots 5 arrows. This format allows a team to compete even if they have to share a bow.

After all arrows are shot and scored, winning teams are announced.

Embrace the Family Fun!

The Generations Archery Tournaments are scheduled in March and October.

Spring Tournament: The March event acts as the kickoff for the new Coach Rip’s Archery Tournament Season. The Inaugural Generations Invitational tournament saw around 30 teams participate back in 2025. Many parents picked up a bow for the first time, and some began their own archery journey thanks to this tournament opportunity.

This year’s Generations 3 was the second annual spring event, and saw 34 teams registered to compete. Several teams returned for their 3rd shoot and helped kick off the 2026 tournament season in style!

Fall Tournament: In October of 2025, Generations 2 added another layer of family fun to the Generations events. Teams were invited to pick team themes, and were encouraged to come to compete dressed in costume! Imagine shooting archery next to an elf, a pirate, and an inflatable t-rex! How could it not be fun?

Generations 4: Our second annual fall shoot is scheduled for October 10th, 2026. Like last year, teams are encouraged to pick themes and dress up! More info will be available as the shoot date approaches.

Family Fun: What started as parents shooting with their kiddos has turned into a shared family hobby and pastime. Archery can lead to fun and meaningful family interactions, as each member of the family discovers their paths to success!

Parents, grandparents, older siblings, family friends, aunts & uncles, and even coaches have all joined student archers to help form a Generations team. The main goal is to have fun. So, whether you are a seasoned shot, or a brand new beginner, there’s a spot for you!

There is a special moment in a Generations tournament, where the student archer has the opportunity to “become the coach” and share their own learning, knowledge, and experience with their teammate. It’s such a fun thing to watch, and also a powerful moment!
